Oregano-Mint Simple Syrup

  • 4 Mint sprigs
  • 2 Oregano sprigs
  • 10 Black Peppercorns (whole)
  • 1 cup granulated Sugar
  • 1 cup Water

  • Add the water and sugar to a medium sauce pot and bring to a simmer, stirring to dissolve the sugar (about 2 minutes). Add the Mint, Oregano, and Peppercorns, stir, and remove from the heat. Allow to steep in the syrup for 2 hours as it cools to room temperature on the counter top. Strain through a fine mesh sieve into a clean stoppered bottle. Store in the refrigerator for up 6 weeks. Yields about 1 cup.

This is a substitute for our Calamintha Simple Syrup. Calamintha has an aroma of mint and oregano and has a taste of those two, along with black peppercorns. This sweet and herbaceous syrup approximates the Calamintha Syrup and is an acceptable substitute in our cocktails which call for Calamintha. Check out our Calamintha Cocktails and use this syrup its stead. Cheers!
