This is a classic cocktail that (arguably) helps kicks-off summer. The traditional drink folks sip at the Kentucky Derby (the first Saturday in May), it’s a shame that its mostly forgotten soon after the race is over. This is a great drink (simple to make) which can be enjoyed all summer long. We like to use the mint syrup because the drink tastes best that way! Period. Besides, the little effort you expended making it, will make life so much easier for you when you’re mixing up a slew of these for a yard-full of guests. Consider offering some of the Julep variations, as well. Check out our Original Mint Julep, Ginger Julep, Elderflower Julep, and Rhubarb Julep. If you want to make just one drink, you can always stir in a tablespoon of sugar with the bourbon and muddle a few mint leaves, instead of using the syrup.
