A drink that you’ll love from the very first sip! Invented in the 1860’s by the master Italian drink maker Gaspare Campari, I swear this cocktail will make you start talking with your hands – waving grand and threatening gestures with every word. Originally named the “Milano-Torino,” after the Campari’s birthplace (near Milan) and the Sweet Vermouth’s (classically, Cinzano) home town of Turin, the drink was so loved by American expatriates in Milan that it was renamed for them. Although the Milano-Torino circuit is now a classic single-day bicycle race, I doubt many bikers are doping on this delightfully fresh and subtly bitter cocktail. Interestingly, this is the first drink ordered by James Bond in “Casino Royale” before he drops this pinkish potion for the better known martini. This drink evolved into the Negroni; then the Boulevardier. Be sure to check out those recipes too. Cheers!
