Ingredients

  • 1¾ oz Cognac
  • ¾ oz Orange Curaçao (or Cointreau)
  • ¾ oz fresh Lemon Juice

  • Add all ingredients, with ice, to a mixing glass and stir to chill. Moisten the rim of an Old fashioned glass with a lemon wedge and dip into granulated sugar. Strain the chilled cocktail into the rimmed glass.

  • Garnish with an Orange Twist

This classic cocktail (from the 1920’s) is an evolution of the 1850’s-era Brandy Crusta. The original recipe was considerably citrus-heavy (calling for equal parts of all three ingredients). We prefer it lighter – still showcasing it’s bright lemon notes while allowing the richness and complexity of the Cognac to shine through. Almost certainly originating at Harry’s Bar in Paris, the reason for the cocktail’s name – though often debated – is lost to history.
