Rye Last Word

2014-05-09

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Rye
  • ¾ oz Fresh Lemon Juice
  • ¼ oz Yellow Chartreuse
  • ½ oz Simple Syrup
  • 1 splash Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur

  • Add all ingredients, with ice, to a Mixing Glass. Stir to chill and strain into a Coupe or Old Fashioned Glass. Do not garnish.

Here is a rich and delightful take on the classic Last Word. As we’re using rye whiskey in place of the classic gin, we swap out the Lime for Lemon. Lime goes great with gin, but the rye has a more, raw and spicy flavor that pairs better with lemon. We’re also substituting Yellow Chartreuse in place of the Green as its lighter and brighter edge allows the flavor of the Rye to be appreciated and not masked by the more herbaceous and perfumy Green Chartreuse. This is a nice tart, rich, complex, and sophisticated reworking with loads of interest. If you’re looking for another twist on the classic Last Word, check out our Mezcal Last Word recipe. Cheers!
