Seriously‽

Ingredients

  • 1½ oz. Agricole Rum
  • ½ oz. Malort (or Besk/Bäsk)
  • ½ oz. Grenadine*
  • ½ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
  • ¼ oz. Agave Nectar
  • ½-⅔ Vanilla Bean

  • Add all ingredients (except the vanilla bean), with ice, to a Cocktail Shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into a Rocks glass and garnish with ½-⅔ of a vanilla bean, cut axially.

  • *See our Grenadine recipe/video or use a nice tart commercially available brand like Employees Only.

Agricole rum is made by distilling sugar cane juice, giving it an edgier taste compared to its cousins made from distilling molasses. Seriously! – named for the crazy collection of ingredients – has a compelling, complex taste. We embrace the drab color of this drink by garnishing with a vanilla bean rather than dressing it up with an edible flower or something bright and lively. Bitter from the malort; raw from the agricole rum; yet with refreshing tart notes from the grenadine and lime alongside the pleasant suggestion of vanilla as it leeches out of the bean, this drink is phenomenal. A blow to the senses. We created this cocktail for the June/July 2015 issue of the Alcoholmanac. Enjoy!
