Ingredients

  • 2 oz. Gin
  • ¾ oz. Fresh Lime Juice
  • ¾ oz. Simple Syrup
  • 3 drops Rose Water
  • 3 drops Angostura Bitters
  • ¾“ section of Cucumber
  • 6-8 Mint Leaves (plus 1 for garnish)
  • Tiny pinch of Salt

  • Muddle the cucumber, mint, and salt in the glass of a Boston Shaker. Add the remaining ingredients, with ice, and shake to chill. Strain into a coupe glass. Garnish with a mint leaf topped with a drop of rose water.

Romeo & Juliet was created by Toby Maloney at Chicago’s Violet Hour. Essentially a cucumber-mint gimlet with an intoxicating rose-water perfume, it is an utterly delightful, crisp, and refreshing cocktail. Is it a quaff to die for, poor Romeo? Well, we’ll let you be the judge of that. We certainly love it, despite the effort brought on by the host of ingredients. But isn’t that love: a lot of effort, but worth it, nonetheless?
“Did my heart love till now? forswear it, sight!
For I ne’er saw true beauty till this night.”

(Act I, Scene 5)
