Ingredients

  • 2 oz Gin
  • 1½ oz White Crème de Cacao
  • 1½ oz Heavy Cream

  • Add all ingredients, with ice, to a cocktail shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into a coupe glass. Top with shaved white chocolate.

Troy Alexander designed this classic pre-prohibition cocktail at Rector’s in New York. He wanted a pure white drink to celebrate Phoebe Snow – the white-dressed fictional character that would be featured in the Delaware, Lackawanna & Western Railroad’s advertisements designed to show that they were burning a clean coal to power their locomotives. The Brandy Alexander is a take on this original and was first known simply as Alexander #2. Because of the era, we originally suspected that this cocktail would have featured Old Tom gin, but the recipe from Hugo Ensslin’s 1915 Recipes for Mixed Drinks called for El Bart – a dry gin. We favor Tanqueray’s Malacca gin, but use your favorite dry-styled gin, knowing that a less botanical and non-vegetally spirit will be your best choice here. Enjoy!
