Trinidad Sour

2014-10-08

Ingredients

  • 1 oz Angostura Bitters
  • 1 oz Orgeat
  • ¾ oz Rye
  • ¾ oz Lemon Juice

  • Add all ingredients, with ice, to a Cocktail Shaker. Shake vigorously and strain into a Rocks Glass over a fresh ice cube.

This wonderful cocktail was created by Guiseppe Gonzalez of Brooklyn’s Clover Club. Like the Angostura Sour, this cocktail calls for a massive quantity of Angostura Bitters – unlike the dash (or two) which you would normally see in a recipe. Unlike the egg in the Angostura Sour, the Trinidad Sour gets its richness from the orgeat and utilizes lemon, in place of lime, as that sour element pairs better with the rye. Though it “tastes like Christmas,” enjoy this gem year-round. It is rich, sweet, and fun with a compelling bitter draw and strong notes of clove, cinnamon and cardamom. Truly incredible. And if you enjoy it, be certain to check out its cousin the Fernet Sour. Cheers!
