Ingredients

  • 1½ oz Mezcal
  • ¾ oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • ½ oz Cointreau
  • ½ oz Agave Nectar
  • 1 dash Angostura Bitters
  • 4 one inch squares Red Bell Pepper

  • In the glass of a Boston Shaker, muddle the red bell pepper in the mescal. Add the lime juice, cointreau, agave nectar, and angostura bitters. Shake with ice and strain into an Old-Fashioned Glass.

  • Garnish with a Red Bell Pepper.

A very sassy drink! And I mean S.A.S.S.Y. the acronym, which perfectly describes this delicious cocktail. It stands for all of the flavors and qualities of this drink: Smoky, Astringent, Sweet, Sour and Yummy! The smell of the bell pepper as you bring this drink to your lips is but a prelude to all of the other flavors that are about to hit your senses. The first thing that gets you is the sweetness of the bell pepper followed almost immediately by the smokiness of the mezcal. Then all of a sudden when you’re thinking, “Wow! This is a good drink,” the sweet and sour of the agave nectar and lime juice and complexity of the mezcal bowls you over and finishes you off. Wow! Sassy! If you’re able to drink only one of these delicious margaritas, you’ve much better will power than either of us!
