Gin & Tonic (homemade)

2014-08-04

Ingredients

  • 2 oz Gin
  • 1 oz Tonic Syrup*
  • 3 oz chilled Club Soda

  • Add the gin and tonic syrup, with ice, to a mixing glass. Stir to chill and strain into a rocks glass over the club soda and fresh ice cubes. Squeeze and drop in a lime wedge.

  • *See our Tonic Syrup recipe/video or use commercially made tonic syrup.

This cocktail utilizes Tonic Syrup to make the classic G & T rather than the more common tonic water. Check out how to make your own Homemade Tonic Syrup, or pick some up at your liquor store. The homemade is not difficult to make, it gives much more depth to your cocktail, and allows you to better control the bitter component to your liking. The British are the ones to thank for the Gin & Tonic, as their troops would drink their medicinal Quinine (Tonic) tincture with their ration of booze to fend off malaria, just as their sailors would mix rum or gin with their preserved lime juice to fight off scurvy, giving us the Gimlet. Rule Britannia!
