Equilibrium

2016-04-14

Ingredients

  • 1 oz. Gin
  • 1 oz. Sweet Vermouth
  • 1 oz. Fresh Grapefruit Juice
  • 2 dashes Angostura Bitters

  • Add all ingredients to a mixing glass. Stir briefly and pour into a Rocks Glass over a fresh ice cube. Do not garnish.

At first thought, it might not make much sense to call a cocktail “Equilibrium” – particularly since having too many will throw you off your’s! But this cocktail, created by Sweden’s Jens Holmgren, was named such because of its perfect balance. A riff on the classic Negroni, Jens replaces the bitter Campari with fresh grapefruit juice. The mildly bitter, sour, and sweet notes of the grapefruit allow the vermouth to shine. Jens recommends Bombay Sapphire East as its pepper notes are showcased, but any London Dry Style gin will do. Cheers!
