The original Sidecar was created in Paris shortly after WWI and appears in Harry MacElhone’s 1922 edition of Harry’s ABC of Mixing Cocktails. The original recipe calls for equal amounts of Cognac, Lemon, and Orange Liqueur which makes for a super-tart quaff, even with the classic sugared rim. So today, most folks cut back on both the orange liqueur and lemon juice and, in the case with our Sucanat Sidecar, we replace the sugared rim with Sucanat Simple Syrup for a deeper sweeter flavor with pleasant molasses tones. Check out how to make the Sucanat Simple Syrup and the other cocktails we have made utilizing it. Cheers!
