Nasturtium Gimlet

2014-09-05

Ingredients

  • 2½ oz Gin
  • 1 oz Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1 oz Simple Syrup
  • 10 Nasturtium Leaves

  • Tear the nasturtium leaves into quarters and drop them, along with the gin, into the glass of a Boston Shaker. Aggressively muddle the leaves. Add the remaining ingredients, with ice, and shake vigorously. Strain into a Martini Glass and garnish with a nasturtium flower or leaf.

This cocktail was inspired by a dish we had at a local restaurant – Odd Duck. The dish that inspired us was fried green tomatoes with a nasturtium puree and garnish of nasturtium leaves. We grow and use the edible nasturtium flowers to garnish many cocktails, but we never thought to use the leaf in a cocktail, until then… The leaf, when muddled, provides a nice spicy, peppery bite. So grab some leaves and your muddler and make this beautiful vibrate green spicy summer sipper. If you enjoy it, be certain to try our Nasturtium Margarita and our incredible Stockholm Syndrome.
